Founder

Kevin M. Donovan

An attorney who has sat on both sides of the planning table — as counsel and as an advisor — and built his practice around the gap in between.

Attorney licensed in Michigan & Tennessee

Technical depth, advisor fluency.

Kevin's practice is focused on estate planning, taxation, succession, and advanced planning for high-net-worth individuals, families, and business owners. The throughline of his work is coordination — making sure the documents, the tax picture, the business, and the family are actually pointed in the same direction.

Before founding The Art of Planning, Kevin worked as a financial advisor and advanced planning professional. He developed referral alliances with CPAs and attorneys, built advisor-facing planning, training, and client-acquisition initiatives, and has spoken at national conferences and advisor practice events. He has also led strategic initiatives credited with helping move an office from the bottom toward the top tier of its national peer group.

That combination — technical legal analysis paired with genuine advisor fluency and emotional intelligence — is exactly what advisor teams need when the planning gets complicated and the relationship matters most.

On your side of the table

The work supports the advisor and protects the relationship. Kevin is brought in to add depth, not to take the client.

Plain language, real rigor

Issue-spotting and analysis are delivered in language advisors and clients can actually use — with the technical work behind it.

Clear lanes

Legal counsel stays legal counsel; investment advice stays with the advisor. Boundaries are documented and respected.

Built to scale with you

From a single review to a standing planning function, the engagement grows with the practice rather than ahead of it.
